Germany 2022 - Kassel, Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe 2022-08-10
On the first day of exploring in Germany, Emily and I visited the UNESCO World Heritage site of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel, my father's home town. It was a Wednesday and a day of the biweekly Wasserspiele, a "water play" that starts at the very top of the park, where there is a statue of Hercules. Photos 23-48 show the water as it works its way down many cascades, over a few falls and a reconstructed Roman aqueduct, and finally ends a large fountain on the pond near the main Wilhelmshöhe castle. Photo 21 shows the vantage point from just under the Hercules statue, the view down through the park, where you can see the big castle in the distance, and the city of Kassel behind. Photos 52-80 were taken at the Löwenburg castle in the park.
